21st Century Transportation

Years ago, humanity’s image of the future was depicted with flying cars. Unfortunately, we are still at the point in time where many of us can barely drive a car on the ground let alone pilot a flying object in the sky.

We have, however, begun to make the idea of autonomous vehicles a common everyday thought.

Not only this, but there has been the recent talk of high-speed modes of transportation such as Hyperloop One and Arrivo which was just announced.

Both Hyperloop One and Arrivo follow the same principle of levitating shuttles powered by magnets and electricity, speeding through enclosed tubes. Hyperloop One goes a step beyond this and will be in a contained vacuum sealed tube which will reduce drag, allowing for higher speeds.

The distinct difference is the targeted destinations.

Hyperloop One aims toward city to city connections, while Arrivo addresses the region to region aspect of commuting.

What’s even more exciting is that Arrivo will be debuted here in Denver. They also have the support from Governor John Hickenlooper when he expresses, “Colorado’s rapidly growing population and booming economy makes for the ideal location for the development of an Arrivo system. Arrivo’s additional decision to locate their test facilities, adding up to 200 employees by 2020 and $10 – 15 million to our economy in 2018, is a testament to the culture of innovation that drives our economic engine.”

Not only will Arrivo provide new job opportunities, but it will, more importantly, allow travel times to diminish. Arrivo is stating these times between regions:

Airport – Downtown

32 mi

9 min

Boulder – Lone Tree

47 mi

14 min

Golden – Airport

37 mi

11 min

Downtown – Castle Rock

30 mi

9 min

There is much more planning to be done, but if all goes well, Arrivo might even be better than flying cars. Until then we will all have to continue to deal with the horrible Colorado traffic and continue to dodge the even more horrid drivers here.
