Our fearless leader, Tony, recently had the opportunity to tour and get the inside scoop regarding the improvements taking place at the Denver International Airport. Do you know what’s going on out there? Well we’ll tell you!
DIA is building a Hotel and Transit Center, currently being called the HTC Program. The program currently consists of several projects, including
1. A 519-room, 433,000 SF, 14 story Westin Hotel and Conference Center to include 2 restaurants, a bar/lounge, 3 ballrooms, a pool and fitness center.
2. A public transit center which will include a commuter rail station connecting the airport with Downtown Denver and a Centralized pick-up and drop-off for all RTD buses serving the airport.
3. A public plaza, Denver’s newest venue for programs and events where passengers and visitors can find entertainment, relaxation, art and restaurants.
The canopy from the public transit center will extend toward Jeppesen Terminal, providing both covered and uncovered areas for activities. The plaza’s square footage alone is equivalent to the size of one football field and two basketball courts!
The East Rail Line is a 22.8-mile commuter rail transit corridor connecting Downtown Denver to the airport in approximately 35 minutes. Transit will run every 15 – 30 minutes.
Project construction began in 2011 and is projected to be completed in 2016. We don’t know about you, but we’re definitely excited to see the finished project!
