The sky is no longer the limit in Amazon’s eyes.
Amazon Prime Air will be utilizing drones to deliver goods to their Amazon Prime members. The importance of this is more than just knowing you will be able to receive dog treats within half an hour, it means that drones will eventually serve a much bigger role in society.
Drones have the ability to maneuver around buildings and accurately create renders for future building plans. This is where drones have the advantage against helicopters. To start with, the hourly cost for use of a commercial helicopter service starts at around $800/hr and goes up from there. Not only is the cost of the service itself expensive, but you also have to think about refueling and if the helicopter will be capable of capturing high-quality images from within between buildings.
This also suggests that opportunities are being created for architecture firms to use drones as a competitive advantage.
Where commercial real estate comes into play is with property tours by use of a drone. Videos and images can be shot in high-definition from any angle of a property. Whether it be a warehouse, an office space, multi-family, or a parcel of land, drones will provide potential clients with unique ways to view properties.
Of course, nothing in this world is perfect and so the negative aspect of drones must be addressed as well. A drone flying around your apartment building downtown taking 360-degree pictures might accidentally include you doing something you wanted to keep private through your window.
It’s also important to note that there are restrictions for where you can fly a drone so don’t expect that you can unbox your brand new drone you plan on buying on Black Friday and piloting it across town to pick up a 6 pack.
